The criminal justice system and capitalism have always been rife with inequities and racism. The failed policies constituting the War on Drugs left millions criminalized and poured salt into the wounds of America's racial divides.
Now cannabis is consumed legally everyday by millions of Americans, while millions more dollars are made in generational wealth for largely white men. As cannabis legalization finally becomes more mainstream, there are a lot of wrongs that must be made right simultaneously.
At VOWD, we affect legalization in both Pennsylvania and across the country, expunge marijuana-related records to seek employment in the cannabis industry, assist those who have been victimized by the drug war and subsidize higher education.
Together, we can turn what has been a glaring example of trickle-down racism into an opportunity for criminal, racial, and economic justice.
